Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers about infertility, IVF, costs and appointments.

Answers to the questions couples ask us most often. For advice about your own situation, please book a consultation with one of our doctors.

IVF basics

When should we see a fertility specialist?

If you are under 35 and have not conceived after 12 months of regular unprotected intercourse — or after 6 months if you are 35 or older — it is a good time to consult. See a specialist sooner if periods are irregular, there is known endometriosis, PCOS, previous pelvic surgery, or a known male-factor problem.

What is the difference between IUI and IVF?

In IUI, prepared sperm are placed inside the uterus and fertilisation happens naturally inside the body. In IVF, eggs are collected and fertilised with sperm in the laboratory, and the resulting embryo is transferred to the uterus. Your doctor will suggest which is suitable based on tests of both partners.

How long does one IVF cycle take?

About four to six weeks from the start of ovarian stimulation to the pregnancy test. The injection phase is usually 10–12 days, egg collection is a day-care procedure, and embryo transfer follows 3–5 days later.

Is IVF painful?

Most women describe the injections as mildly uncomfortable. Egg collection is done under short anaesthesia, and embryo transfer feels similar to a routine internal examination. Our team will explain each step so you know what to expect.

Can IVF guarantee a pregnancy?

No. No clinic can guarantee a pregnancy or live birth. The chance of success depends on age, egg and sperm quality, the cause of infertility and the health of the uterus. Your doctor will discuss realistic expectations for your situation.

Male infertility

Is infertility always a problem with the woman?

No. A male factor contributes in a large share of couples. That is why we test both partners from the start — a simple semen analysis is one of the first investigations.

What if no sperm are found in the semen (azoospermia)?

Depending on the cause, sperm can often be retrieved directly from the testis or epididymis through procedures such as TESA or PESA and used for ICSI. Your andrologist will advise after examination and tests.

Costs & appointments

How much does IVF cost at Ridge IVF?

The cost depends on the treatment plan, medicines and any additional lab procedures you need. We explain the complete package clearly before treatment starts, with no hidden costs, and zero-cost EMI options are available. Call or book a consultation for an estimate for your case.

What should I bring to my first consultation?

Please bring previous reports, ultrasound scans, semen analysis reports, prescriptions and treatment summaries if you have had IUI or IVF before. Both partners attending the first visit helps the doctor plan the right tests.

Do I need an appointment?

Appointments are recommended so that your doctor has time for you. You can book online, call us or send a WhatsApp message and our patient coordinator will confirm a time at your preferred centre.

Fertility preservation

Can I freeze my eggs for the future?

Yes. Egg freezing is an option for women who wish to delay pregnancy or who need treatment such as chemotherapy that may affect fertility. Eggs frozen at a younger age generally have a better chance of success later.
